S.A. Resolution # 27: Expanding Availability of the Students Helping Students Grant

Sponsored by: Dan Kuhr ‘13

Whereas, Article VI Section 2H of the Student Assembly Bylaws states that the Financial Aid Review Committee (FARC) is “responsible for the administration of the Students Helping Students grant.”

Whereas, the Students Helping Students (SHS) grant is currently only available to students during the fall and spring semesters and not over winter and summer breaks.

Whereas, the committee has witnessed student need for the grant during these breaks.

Whereas, Student Assembly committees may not be fully staffed over the summer.

Whereas, one counselor from the Office of Financial Aid serves as a voting member of FARC and the Associate Director of Financial Aid for Customer Service and Community Relations serves as an ex-officio member of FARC.

Be it therefore resolved, that the Financial Aid Review Committee will accept Students Helping Students grant applications and review them for funding at all times of the year unless a student is on a leave of absence, has been withdrawn (either by student request or by University requirement), or has graduated from the University.

Be it further resolved, that all documents be updated to reflect this fact.

Be it finally resolved, that in the event that the committee not be staffed with students, funding decisions shall be left to the discretion of the Chair [if appointed], the aforementioned counselor from the Office of Financial Aid, and the Associate Director of Financial Aid for Customer Service and Community Relations.

Respectfully Submitted,
