Resolution 45: Fostering a "United Student Body"

Sponsored by: Adam Gitlin ‘13, Ulysses Smith ‘14, Juliana Batista ‘16, Oscar Correia ‘14, Juan Carlos Toledo ‘13

Whereas, there are over 1000 student organizations on campus that span very diverse activities and engage thousands of students.

Whereas, the Student Assembly seeks to foster a campus community where every student has the opportunity to engage and be included in all aspects of student life.

Whereas, the administration implemented “Towards New Destinations” last Spring in order to initiate an institutional diversity plan.

Whereas, although TND will increase diversity planning on an institutional level, it is incredibly important that student leaders enact their own diversity plan to truly affect student life on campus.

Whereas, the Student Assembly, as elected leaders of the student body, should implement a comparable plan to encourage student organizations to increase their initiatives around diversity and inclusion.

Whereas, the Student Assembly has oversight over the Student Activities Office within the Office of the Dean of Students.

Whereas, the Student Assembly can work with student organizations to implement initiatives across campus revolving around composition, engagement and inclusion.

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly enact the attached “United Student Body” plan.

Be it further resolved, that “United Student Body” is enacted over the course of multiple years in order to ensure that the plan is implemented effectively.

Be it finally resolved, that at the end of the 2013–2014 academic year that the plan be evaluated by the current Student Assembly to measure its effectiveness.

Respectfully Submitted,
