Resolution 50: SAFC Funding Guidelines Amendment Spring 2013

Whereas, the Student Assembly (the Assembly) has both legislative and judicial authority over the Student Assembly Finance Commission (the Commission);

Whereas, Section 1.3 of the Assembly Charter titled “Welfare of the Student Community” states:

“The SA will have the authority and the responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community and to make proposals concerning those issues to the appropriate officers or decision-making bodies of the University”;

Whereas, the current SAFC allocation process has only one opportunity for groups to submit budget applications to be reviewed by the Commission;

Whereas, an SAFC allocation process that has only one opportunity to submit a budget application must have that deadline early enough so that groups with programs in the first third of a semester are able to know how much they were allocated before they spend money unless they take the personal risk of not getting reimbursed;

Whereas, many groups struggle to plan events that span an entire semester before the single funding deadline;

Be it therefore resolved, that the SAFC Guidelines be revised as written in the attached Appendix (Appendix A).
