September 10, 2013 Letter to President Re: R. 3

Dear President Skorton,

I would like to formally communicate SA Resolution 3, SAFC Charter Changes, sponsored by Vice President of Finance, Geoffrey Block and SAFC co-chairs, Alykhan Bandali and Claire Blumenthal.

You may recall that at the end of last semester, the SA, at the behest of the SAFC, passed Resolution 50. This resolution changed the SAFC funding structure in a way that allowed for groups to submit budgets and apply for funding in rounds, rather than one time per semester. While we were and still are confident that this was a significant step forward for the funding structure of the SAFC, we have nonetheless moved to revert the system back to its previous form for a number of reasons.

Recently, we have moved to OrgSync, an online system that has since replaced the former SAO’s registration database. In order for the new SAFC funding structure to work optimally, OrgSync must be customized a bit more. Unfortunately, OrgSync has not delivered on much of the customized material that we had hoped at this time. Additionally, student organizations are still having trouble registering their organizations with SLECA through the system. The SAFC, SLECA, and the SA have decided that it would be best to revert back to the old funding structure for this semester, in order to give groups additional time to adjust to the system change. This also gives the SA and the SAFC more time to work with OrgSync to further customize the system.

We will be meeting with representatives from OrgSync on the 19th and 20th of this month. The resolution and its appendix are attached for your reference.

Regards,

Ulysses
