President Response RE: Resolutions 56, 57, and 58

Dear Ulysses,

Thank you for your persistence and patience as you work to create a judicial commission. I am supportive of the direction the Student Assembly is going to create this commission with its role to provide voluntary mediation for students. However, there are some inconsistencies within and across the resolutions that need to be fixed before they can be approved.

Here are a few examples. First, please be sure to resubmit the resolutions with the appropriate changes, as communicated in your e-mail on March 31. Secondly, I assume that the responsibility of the Parliamentarian identified in line 34 of R. 56 is in addition to the other seven which exist already in the SA bylaws, which should be added to this resolution. Also, you endow the commission with inherent authority to resolve various undergraduate student organization matters premised on those organizations’ receipt of funding from the SA; this is incompatible with the mediation being voluntary. Lastly, the commission’s bylaws and charter need to be aligned with the resolution language changes as well.

Please work closely with Gina Giambattista as you modify the resolutions. Stephanie Sechler and Vice President Murphy are happy to provide clarification on any of these items.

Regards,

David
