President Response RE: Resolutions 82 and 85

Dear Ulysses,

Thank you for sharing resolution 82, Addressing First-Year TCAT Passes, with me. The bus pass will not be eliminated for new students to Cornell. The funding will continue to be provided as it has been in the past, so the Student Activity Fee will not be used to fund these passes.

At the same time, Cornell is not going to increase its subsidy to TCAT in the coming year as we do not have the funds to do so. I appreciate your concern for this matter. Regarding more regular meetings with the constituents of this discussion, I will share your interest with Jim Blair, chair of the University Assembly and Bridgette Brady, director of Transportation Services.

Thank you, also for your suggestion of creating an official mascot. As this resolution is written, though, I cannot forward it to the Board of Trustees. I, and several other administrators, believe the mascot should be the big red bear, not Touchdown, the bear cub. If you wish to reconsider this resolution and request that the big red bear be the official mascot, I would be willing to forward that to the Board.

Regards,

David
