Resolutions 15 and 18:)

Dear President Skorton,

I would like to convey two Student Assembly resolutions regarding Special Projects Funding to you. As you know, we save our Special Projects account to fund student initiatives (by SA and community members) that we think will be inclusive and beneficial for the Cornell community. Because the requests for funding met or exceeded $1500, the SA at large was required to approve our Appropriations Committee’s decisions. In both cases, the SA general body upheld this committee’s decision.

Resolution 15 was a request for funding for EzRoots, a collaboration between many performance groups on campus that occurred last weekend on the Arts Quad. The SA provided $1500 so that the first 300 students in attendance could receive free food, while they enjoyed the performances. At this free event, students could engage with performance groups that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to see. We are proud of the event’s success, and thought that it was a great way to show off Cornell’s talented students for the benefit of the community at large.

Resolution 18 was a request for funding the Ivy Leadership Summit (ILS). The Appropriations Committee decided to fund the Summit, which is being coordinated by the Ivy Council and will occur at Cornell in November, a total of $340. While SA members were hesitant to provide more funding because relatively few Cornell students will be delegates and attend the event, they believe that the lecture by David Price, a Cornell alumnus, will engage the broader campus community, because anyone can attend the lecture as well as watch it online. Thus, the $340 was decided upon to fund that portion of the event specifically.
