Letter to President RE: Resolution 8
Dear President Skorton and Dean Burns,
I would like to convey Resolution 8: Resources in Syllabi for Mental Health to you. This resolution was co-sponsored by Matthew Stefanko and Yamini Bhandari.
The SA representatives showed overwhelming support for the thought behind this resolution. We hope that the Faculty Senate, and the EPC, will encourage faculty to include language like what was written in the resolution in their future course syllabi.
As students, we cannot enforce this change, but we do highly encourage it. We believe that students in distress often turn to their syllabi as a place to begin looking for help. By including information about resources on campus, students may be more likely to get the help that they need, outside of office hours.
I would like to thank Tim and Catherine for their help in crafting a slightly different version of the proposed text. This version was reviewed and approved by HP and Communications. It is attached to this email, and although it is different than the language written in the resolution, this text has our full support.
I hope that upon receipt of this resolution we can continue this discussion with the Faculty Senate and EPC, as Dean Burns sees fit.
Thank you both for your consideration.
Best, Sarah
