September 25, 2008 Amended Meeting Attachment

R.6 Compliance with Cornell’s Statement on Diversity

Originally Presented On:Thursday, September 18, 2008
Sponsors:Nikhil Kumar, Nicole Rivera, Rammy Salem
Subject of Resolution:Compliance with University Policy 4.10
Status/Result:-

Whereas, The Student Assembly adopted Cornell’s Statement on Diversity, “Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds,” on December 3, 1999, which states that, “each member of the Cornell community has a responsibility to honor this legacy and to support a more diverse and inclusive campus in which to work, study, teach, research, and serve”

Whereas, Recent and previous installments of the Cornell Review/American have caused feelings of alienation and intimidation for some members of the Cornell community

Be it therefore resolved, That the Student Assembly believes that recent articles in the Cornell Review are inconsistent with the values of Cornell’s Statement on Diversity

Be it further resolved, That the Student Assembly believes that the Cornell Review is not in compliance with Cornell’s Statement on Diversity and strongly urges that the Office of the Dean of Students collaborate with the Student Assembly, the University Assembly, and greater campus community in a committee to revise the Campus Code of Conduct to prevent future hateful terminology.

Respectfully submitted,

Nikhil Kumar
