Initial Findings
The Student Assembly does not have a discretionary budget for programming or directly cosponsoring campus events.
Co-sponsorships can provide a keen public relations opportunity for the Student Assembly, and a small discretionary budget would encourage representatives to create programs that will directly benefit the undergraduate community.
Potential Solutions
- The Student Assembly should be allocated a small discretionary budget for the reasons described above. This budget, while carefully managed by the Assembly, could provide an incentive for motivated representatives to take on engagement projects requiring funding to get off the ground.
- The Student Assembly should actively engage all areas of the undergraduate community and encourage its members to apply for small grants from the discretionary budget to create exciting and sustainable programs that will continue on behalf of the Student Assembly.
- The Student Assembly can make an effort to further align with Class Councils, utilizing class government as a way to communicate with the student body, and allowing Student Assembly members to become further involved with programming and events planning.
